Aaron Draplin's Show at The Office

Last night was Aaron Draplin's show at The Office on Alberta Street. We showed up a little after six and grabbed this brilliant poster that Mr.Draplin made for the show. It's basically everything he's done from 1993-present. His dog Gary was there, his parents were there from Michigan. We were thrilled to talk with his Dad and show him the Red Wing's score on my husband's new iPhone. Can't wait to hang that orange monstrosity somewhere serious in our home!

And, for those of you keeping track. THE WINGS ARE IN THE STANLEY CUP PLAYOFFS!!!! They won last night in overtime, rejoice!

the rebranding of America

Kim Hastreiter of the magazine PAPER asked 15 graphic designers to come up with an advertisement rebranding America. Dan Weiden of Weiden + Kennedy's entry is my favorite. Quite clever and not whiny and negative like some of the other entries. See the full story here. Thanks Dad for sending this along.

a graphic designer's desk

This is my desk here at Ankrom Moisan. I like to pin up things that I find that might help inspire me. My two favorite pieces are both from the talented Aaron Draplin of the DDC. His 18 month calendar and Gary Quick-Reference Card always are a crowd pleaser. I especially like all of the Gary Aliases that Draplin lists for his beloved pet like "Director of Barketing", "Godamnit Gary" and "Gary.com". Brilliant!

volkswagen advertising

Love these ads by Volkswagen for the new GTI. First and foremost because they have gorgeous horses in them and also because they're quite clever.

adam haynes

Adam's work is amazing. He lives in Bend and illustrates for all sorts of companies including Nike 6.0. I wish I could go to his show this month in L.A. We have a print of his treehouse and atv illustration above and would love to collect more pieces!

we need more lens flare!

The Star Trek movie was awesome, far surpassing all expectations! I was struck by the lighting and squeaky white brightness of the Enterprise's bridge. I feel like the whole set was reminicent of Apple's white iPods and iMacs. The scenes on the bridge had major lens flare which was really stylistically unique. Can't wait to see it again!

charley harper

Charley Harper is my favorite illustrator of all time. His geometric style is really fabulous, this piece called "Birch Bark and Birds" is just awesome.

This is one of the more recent publications of his work. I'm saving up my pennies to have it for my very own someday!
