design kamp is moving

I'm pretty excited to announce that Design Kamp is moving to a new home!

I've moved it to continue exploring the boundaries of blogging and after SWISS MISS's talk on friday and her overwhelming complements towards the features and flexibility of wordpress I feel completely compelled to leave blogspot and give this new platform a good old college try!

See you at the new site, thank you for visiting!

follow up: visit to Weiden + Kennedy to see SWISS MISS

So, friday was amazing! Mike and I went down to W+K at 11:30 and picked out our spot among fellow designers, "Weidens" and over excited design students who were talking a little too loudly about their opinions on packaging design (hoping to be overheard and 'discovered' by the "Weidens" I mentioned). Here's a few photos from the show! To see all of SWISS MISS's photo set click here.
That's Mike and I about to sit down in the top right hand corner of the photo!

Tina was really inspiring to listen to, here are a few stats:
* She started her blog in May of 2005, and today has an average of over 5 million visitors!
* Her first client was the MOMA - what a way to start out huh?!
* She doesn't like the word "blog" and hopes the term will be quickly antiquated...

Here's a shot looking up through the W+K "catwalks", note the "bird's nest" up top, it's pretty amazing!
Probably the most exciting part of it all was running into a favorite childhood friend who is now working at W+K! I'm so proud of you Carrie! (We're up on the rooftop deck - so fabulous!)

designed by nature

I have a surprise 4 day weekend coming up, maybe somewhere in that spread I'll have time to do my own little fall-found-object composition. This one makes me feel so cozy!

One of my favorite design bloggers will be speaking at Weiden + Kennedy this friday at lunchtime! I think I'm totally going to go and be inspired! W+K Studio presents swissmissOctober 9th, 2009 11.30-1pm
Bring your lunch and listen to Tina talk about what brought her from the swiss alps to the big apple and how her blog turned her into a ‘networked designer’.

say 'I do' to jcrew

I loved happening upon this gorgeous JCREW window display at the University Village shopping center in Seattle over the weekend! JCREW has always delivered and the ribbon/champagne glass hanging grouping behind the two models was so lovely!

a seattle shopping trip

Tomorrow we're headed up to Seattle for a fun day of Lattes, Fall weather, a lunch out somewhere new and a trip to H&M! I checked out their website, and it's chocked full of fashion goodness! I laughed out loud at this cave man male model, he's so Canadian Mountain Chic!
Matt is starting fall term at PSU, perhaps he'll pick out a fetching new jacket for his scholorly ambitions!

Hope your weekend is fabulous!!!

au revoir simone

Loving the typographic treatment of Au Revoir Simone's album cover, and the collage style of their website! It takes me back to the good old days of decoupaging everything in site with magazine clippings as a teenager!

rainy day accessories

Today is supposed to be the first rainy day of the week as we're headed into October. I still have hopes and dreams of many sunny crispy October and November days, but I am thinking rain at the moment! Here is a little collection of lovely rain related accessories...First of all, proper rain enjoyment begins with dry feet in Wellington boots! I also love this rain inspired necklace, why not celebrate what keeps Portland green?! And finally, I have a deep appreciation for anything Coal Headwear puts out, isn't this Fedora so fasionable and fun?

chick-a-dee-dee-dee!

I just adore Chickadees, they're so formal and sweet!
Thanks to Draplin, I found this fabulous artist's site who has a lovely Charley Harper style and interest in birds!
Also, you can just search by "chickadee" on Etsy and find lots of amazing little bird related items! fun!

Happy Monday! Did the weekend zoom by for you too?

Treat Wednesdays

Things have been a bit dismal in the Architectural world lately, and our firm has not been exempt from that grey cloud. I decided to boost morale we should start a rotating treat service on wednesdays! I thought I'd share the little flyer I made to remind everyone when it was their turn to make everyone else's mid-week better.

seriously?

So on my drive into work this morning I passed Burger King like usual, and saw these posters for the Angry Whopper...well, not this poster exactly, the one I saw had much more ridiculous typography...more like Rage Italic or something. And I thought to myself, I don't want to eat something that's angry! Who would want to eat something angry? I only want to eat happy things don't you? I would love to hear the rationalization and the brand development sessions that led to the naming of this food product. I'd love to hear the marketing guy go "yeah this is going to be big...angry big!"
Is it just me or does the Whopper Furioso crack you up too?

horse art wednesdays

Wish I was this good at painting horses falling from the sky! Wish also that I could tell you who did paint them...

nixon now

There's nothing like a Nixon Watch, I have three of them and the boys at Cinco do an awesome job turning out new and exciting designs all day long. I ventured over to Nixon's website, and found they've come out with some new and very expensive options! The Ceramic Player is $1,400 and the Ceramic Debutant is $1,000! They're fabulous of course, but far to steep for my Architectural-Economy-Based-Income!
I am totally enamored with the Nixon's Winter Wonderland collection, I must get that white and brown purse in the back! And check the adorable milk pitcher tipped over with the whale tail and the polar bear...too cute! More realistically, I'll probably go for one of these lovely items in the more near future...love the classic lines and loud gold of the Cougar, and there is something NubbyTwiglet-esque *without going all the way* about the Chalet Leather.

oh, and did I mention...?

As you know, I heart Anthropologie and everything they do. The window displays are always amazing, the tags on the clothing are always very tactile and fun, and their website reflects that in-store branding perfectly! I've always admired sites that have a feel to them, I think it's really great when a website is warm and cozy...since most are very sleek and techy. I adore the little pins holding the "sale" note and the taped down edges of the pictures. Also the water color header bases are very clever!

stickley vs. frank llyod wright

Frank Lloyd Wright furniture is now available at Design (Not) Within Reach! But those of us in Kamp that are Stickley fans think that the Frank Lloyd Wright furniture isn't on the same level with their craftsman masterpieces. Which would you choose? Seaside Car Show - V8 power!

On Saturday we visited family in Seaside and found it to be the annual car show weekend, the main drag was littered with classic cars and admirers. I'm not one to care much about classic cars, but I had a lot of fun documenting Ford's use and variations of the V8 symbol! What fabulous typography and integration!
Also, I really loved the hood ornaments, especially those that look like they could fly! And, here's a few of my favorite logos. Finally, here are some of the best cars. Love the leather detailing and suicide doors.

Now, if you're in the market for a super car, allow me to direct you to the upcoming release of the convertible Audi r8! I know what I'll be doing with my thousands of dollars (that I don't have!).

inglourious basterds

Sunday night we saw Inglourious Basterds. It was awesome. The typography for the opening and closing credits, as well as throughout the movie was really great, authentic and thoughtful. Oh, and you can never go wrong with Mr.Pitt on the screen...

I wasn't aware really that it was a Quentin Tarantino until we sat down, needless to say I spent about 20% of the movie starring at the ground with my ears plugged waiting for Mike or Annie to tell me I could look up again! Still, it was an amazing movie!
